Heavy Oil

Propak has the capability to execute heavy oil projects from conception to completion, with our in-house process and mechanical engineering expertise and our full EPC capabilities. We engineer and manufacture steam-assisted-gravity-drainage (SAGD) central processing facilities, plus SAGD well pair satellite packages and gather surface facilities.

  • Central Processing Facilities
    • Propak has completed engineering, design, fabrication, and construction of SAGD central processing facilities with capacities ranging 3000 BBL/D to 10000 BBL/D. With expertise in modular design, Propak designed facilities are well planned allowing efficient field construction.

      These facilities include:

      Water treatment packages

      Boiler feed water systems

      Once thru steam generator (OTSG) packages

      Oil separation, treating, and desalting

      Water disposal systems

      Fuel gas systems

      Instrument air packages

      Glycol heating and cooling systems

      Leased automatic custody transfer (LACT) units

  • Well Site Facilities
    • Well Site Facilities

      Propak has provided SAGD manifold and testing facilities for well pads with as few as 1 well pair and as many as 24 well pairs. Propak can provide facilities expertise for optimizing plot space for value in drilling and completions operations, minimizing surface facilities, and staging of development of well pads.

      Custom designing well pad facilities is often required due to well spacing and operation strategies. Propak can provide SAGD well pad facilities tailored to such needs. Propak has previous past experience with the following well pad facilities:

      testing facilities on or off module

      configurations of 1 to 5 well pair modules

      1 or 2 well string designs

      gas lift, rota-flex lift, or pump jack lift

      manual, HART, or foundation field bus control

      with building or winterization

      Testing facilities:

      vertical 2 phase test separators or horizontal 3 phase test separators

      water cut analyzer installation

      sample points designed for client preferred sampling systems

      coriolis meters for emulsion phase

      turbine meter for produced water phase

      vortex meters for vapour phase

  • SAGD Projects
    • Propak has several completed, and currently underway, SAGD projects. For these projects, Propak is responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication, and construction.

      Propaks expertise in modular facility engineering, fabrication, and construction includes:

      providing standard designs to reduce engineering recycle time and cost

      modularize CPF for 10,000 bpd & 3-5 SOR capacity

      modularization of WSF for reduced well spacing, increased test capacity

      providing well and reservoir surveillance monitoring tools for thermal recovery process

  • Modular Mini Refineries
    • Propak has the capability to provide engineering services as well as fabrication and construction of modular mini refineries typically for remote location and capacities up to 15,000 BBL/D. These modular mini refineries often include:

      crude topping distillation

      hydro-skimming

      product treating

      utilities

      Crude Topping

         

      Propak can provide modular crude topping units for distillate cuts.

      Hydroskimming units

      If further upgrading is required, Propak works with licensors to upgrade naphtha cut to gasoline.

      Reforming/Isomerization

      Propak has built isomerization units for light straight run gasoline upgrading and butane isomerization.

         

      Hydrotreating

      With the movement to cleaner fuels, sulphur and nitrogen removal from the crude fractions is required. Propak can design and build these units to meet your needs.

      Sweetening

      If mercaptan removal is required, sweetening units can be provided.

  • Oil Separation, Treating & De-Salting
    • Propak has provided oil separation, oil treating and desalting units with installed capacities up to 150,000 BBL/D. Common industry techniques are combined with proprietary designs to optimize process conditions and to maximize client value.

      Custom designs are often required for technically challenging applications. Our technology is efficiently treating heavy oil under 10° API gravity, light crude and condensate, oils containing paraffin's and various other applications.

      Oil Separation and Knockouts:

      standard carbon steel, 304-SS, 316-SS, or other exotic alloy construction

      complete with optional internals to meet difficult process conditions

      available with optional cyclone separation technology and/or baffle internals

      conventional coalescing techniques

      electrostatic coalescing options

      indirectly heated or direct fired

      flooded 2 or 3 phase designs, with 2 chambers
